Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said the decision to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the First Turkology Congress in Baku reflects the city's historic significance in the development of the Turkic world. EDnews report.
In a message to participants of Turkic World Week, Erdogan said Azerbaijan continues to play a vital role in strengthening solidarity and enhancing cooperation among Turkic states.
He noted that the principles and discussions of the First Turkology Congress, held in Baku in 1926, remain relevant today, particularly in promoting a shared understanding of history, language and cultural heritage across the Turkic world.
"The First Turkology Congress played an important role in shaping a common sense of history, language, and culture among Turkic peoples. Preserving, strengthening, and passing on the ideals inherited from the congress to future generations is a shared responsibility of the entire Turkic world," Erdogan said.
The Turkish president also stressed that unity, friendship and close cooperation among Turkic nations are essential for addressing common challenges and advancing shared interests.
Turkic World Week, held in Baku through July 3, brings together hundreds of scholars, officials and cultural representatives from across the Turkic world to mark the centenary of the landmark congress.
