Iran has issued a new warning to Bahrain, with a senior adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei cautioning that Tehran would respond with greater force if it believed Bahrain was involved in actions against Iran, according to Reuters.
Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader, said Bahrain should "know its limits" and avoid actions that could prompt Tehran to take what he described as "harsh decisions."
The warning comes after Iran said it targeted a US Navy base in Bahrain on Friday and Saturday in retaliation for recent US military strikes. Tehran has repeatedly accused the United States of using military facilities across the Gulf to launch attacks on Iranian territory.
Bahrain has rejected those claims and condemned the recent attacks, saying they violated the kingdom's sovereignty and undermined efforts to reduce tensions and promote regional stability.
The kingdom, which hosts the US Navy's Fifth Fleet and has a majority Shia population, has also arrested dozens of people in recent months over alleged military links to Iran.
Regional tensions remain high as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation between Iran, the United States, and their allies.
