U.S. President Donald Trump has once again criticized European NATO allies, arguing that the United States continues to shoulder a disproportionate share of the alliance's defence burden.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump pointed to differences in defence spending between the U.S. and several European members, including France and the United Kingdom, calling Washington’s financial contribution to NATO “ridiculous.”
“They were not there for us!!!” Trump wrote, expressing frustration over what he described as insufficient support from allies during the U.S. military campaign against Iran.
The spending figures referenced in Trump’s post largely correspond with NATO’s 2025 defence expenditure data, with only minor differences.
Trump’s comments come ahead of a NATO conference scheduled to take place in Ankara, Türkiye, where alliance members are expected to discuss regional security and defence priorities.
