The controversial Danish bill about deterring the asylum seekers has passed from the parliament.
The bill includes proposals to confiscate money and valuables from migrants arriving in Denmark. Supporters of the legislation say it will help migrants pay for their upkeep.
The authorities say the law will put asylum seekers in same level with unemployed Danish citizens.
Migrants are expected to sell assets above a certain amount to qualify for benefit payments.
There are also plans to extend the period before family members are allowed to join relatives who have migrated.
Critics say the legislation is aimed at deterring people migrating to Denmark. According to the new legislation migrants are now allowed to bring 1,340 euros into Denmark and any amount above this will be confiscated by the authorities at the border control points. This will include not only the cash but also the valuables of the newcomers, except some sentimental objects, such as wedding ring etc. will be allowed to keep.
The controversial legislation adopted by the Danish parliament was criticized by human rights institutions such as Amnesty international, Human Rights Watch.
