Heidi Kuhn, founder and CEO of “Roots of Peace”, humanitarian organisation dedicated to removal of landmines and subsequent replanting and rebuilding of war-torn regions, started her visit to Azerbaijan. According to Ednews, she is in our country at the invitation of the International Eurasia Press Fund and with support of ANAMA.
Heidi Kuhn is one of the prominent anti-mine champions known for her peace initiatives as well as programmes aimed at reintegration of landmine victims into society. “Roots of Peace” has so far managed to extract more than 100,000 landmines from the former battlefields in 8 countries and supported the development of agriculture in those areas. Her initiative called “Mines to Vines” converting mine-contaminated areas into vineyards has become a great movement in the world. She made a major contribution to the increase in exports of agricultural products from Afghanistan from 250 million dollars in 2014 to 1.4 billion dollars in 2020.
The main purpose of Heidi Kuhn's visit is to get acquainted with the mine problems in the country, bringing it to the attention of the international community and to support the converting of mine-contaminated areas into farmlands.
During her visit, H.Kuhn will meet state officials, representatives of international organisations, mass media, civil society organisations and mine victims.
