On March 7, the Tarter Regional Vocational Training Center of the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) hosted an event honoring female minesweepers in celebration of "March 8 International Women's Day", Ednews reports.
The President of IEPF, Umud Mirzayev, visited the dedicated women's team at work, emphasizing the significant contribution of women in demining efforts.
Mirzayev, in his introductory speech, highlighted the historical significance of International Women's Day and underlined the crucial role played by Azerbaijani women, serving as mothers, educators, and healthcare professionals. He expressed admiration for the women actively involved in mine clearance, many of whom are internally displaced persons demonstrating unwavering patriotism.
The event featured Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Management Board of the Mine Action Agency of The Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA), who joined virtually to extend congratulations on behalf of "March 8 International Women's Day" to the female minesweepers. Flowers were presented to each member of the women's minesweeper team as a token of appreciation.
Supported by the European Union (EU) and the US State Department through IEPF, the project established all-female minesweeping teams in Azerbaijan. The initiative, led by President Umud Mirzayev, signifies a collaborative effort with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), ANAMA, and Mines Advisory Group (MAG).
The presence of media outlets, including "Baku Media" Center and Public TV, at the event highlights the importance of recognizing and showcasing the significant role played by women in demining efforts. The collaborative project aims to empower women and contribute to a safer environment with international support.
