UEFA Champions League the second leg of quarter-final matches identified the first semi-finalists.
The first match draw in Juventus-Ajax made excited for who can qualify semi-final. As in the Netherlands, Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo scored the first goal. But the 28th-minute goal was answered in 34th minutes by Ajax midfielder Van De Beek's goal.
Second half Mattias De Ligt headshot made the score ahead of Juventus in away match. In the final whistle, Ajax was the semi-finalist with magnificent Dutch squad.
Erik ten Hag, Ajax coach: “In the second half they couldn’t get their game going, and you saw that spaces started to appear. We were then able to play more football. We created three, four, 100% chances. We should probably have closed off the match earlier, but as it turned out we needed a set play to get the winning goal. This was a completely different game than in the Bernabéu. In the beginning, it was a physical battle. Our organization was good, but we had to weather the storm. There were only a couple of moments that didn’t work.
Barcelona won easily over Manchester United. It was enough to make 2 goals by Lionel Messi for 4 minutes.
Coutinho's glorious shoot became unsaved by goalkeeper De Gea. Especially, in the second goal, his unforgettable mistake demotivated Red Devils at Camp-Nou.
Barcelona coach Valverde: "We are very excited. It's been a while since we were in the semi-finals – now we'd love to get to the final. We are confident, but we know that five bad minutes can leave you eliminated. This is the Champions League. Nothing is safe and there's no first-leg result that is a guarantee. Liverpool is favorites to qualify because of their advantage, but we'll see tomorrow."
Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Man. United coach: "We want to play these games again next year but there's no point dwelling on what might have been. It could have been better if we had started better and got the first goal, but now we need to focus on the league. This Barcelona team are at the level we have to get to. We know we can get there, but we have loads of work to do. If we want to get back to Man. United's true traditions and level, we know we have to challenge Barcelona. I have to say they were a couple of levels today and at Old Trafford. If you want the result, you need the performance. We created some decent chances in the first 15 minutes but then Messi hits that in the bottom corner. I've got to say, he's top quality – he makes the difference. He and Cristiano Ronaldo have been the best players for the last decade and tonight he showed his quality."
So, Barcelona and Ajax qualify the semi-finals of UEFA Champions League.
