AC Roma announced on Tuesday that it has fired coach Jose Mourinho, who will leave the club with immediate effect. "We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club," Roma said.
The celebrated manager joined the Serie A club after being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur in 2021. He helped Roma to its first trophy in 11 years, winning the Conference League in 2022. Under his leadership, the club also reached the Europa League final in 2023, losing to Sevilla on penalties. After the match, Mourinho complained that he was "tired of acting as a manager, director of communications and complaining about referee's decisions." Roma is currently ninth in Serie A, having notched three losses in the five last games.
