Births in Armenia drop in first 6 months of this year compared to last

Zhoghovurd daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes: The number of births in Armenia has decreased in the [first] six months of this year. Accordingly, 15,893 births were recorded in January-June last year, EDNews.net reports citing News.am.

It should be noted that the downward trend in the number of births in the RA has continued since 2018 (…).

According to the Statistical Committee, in January-June of this year, one case of maternal death due to complications related to pregnancy, birth and postpartum period was recorded. In parallel to this, note that the death toll has risen. Officially, 14,417 cases of death were recorded during the same period.

Note that in January-June last year, the number of deaths was 13,724, whereas in 2018, 13,218 cases of death were recorded.

On the other hand, out of 1,000 marriages recorded in the republic in January-June 2020, 284 cases of divorce were recorded, compared to the 242 cases recorded in the same period of the previous year.
