Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko showed a tough stance on the defiance of his power. He was seen grabbed assault rifle and body armor on moving toward the helicopter.
Yesterday, tens of thousands of protesters rallied Lukashenko's residence at the Independence Palace in Minsk. The video footage screened by state news agency BelTa that the government helicopter landed and Lukashenko was carrying Kalashnikov type rifle.
While moving to the helicopter, Lukashenko declared: “They’ve run away like rats”.
On Sunday, the Belarussian streets were colored red and white as demonstrators carried flags symbolizing protest against Lukashenko’s power.
Although state television said there were 20,000 protesters, the opposition channels claimed the attendance of 200 thousand people.
Some protesters milling below chanted "coward" as a helicopter was seen flying out of the residence, a Reuters witness said.
It was the first time that protesters neared to the presidential residence.
It should be noted that, since the 9 August presidential elections, the Belarusian people have been arranged rallies against the result of the elections which ensures the 6th term of Lukashenko’s authority.
