United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said on Thursday that his "working assumption" is that the country's general election could likely take place in the second half of 2024, potentially hinting that May elections could be out of the question.
"I want to keep going, managing the economy well and cutting people's taxes. But I also want to keep tackling illegal migration," Sunak said during his visit to East Midlands. The prime minister also flagged a "big cut" to national insurance of around £450 per person which is expected to come into force later this week.
There has been speculation about the exact date of the general elections in Britain, with January 2025 being the latest possible date for voting. According to recent polls, the Labor Party holds a 13-point lead over the Tories.
