Former Armenian Defense Minister David Tonoyan, accused of purchasing unusable aircraft and misappropriating government funds, will remain under arrest, lawyer Andranik Manukyan said, Report informs referring to Sputnik Armenia.
The Anti-Corruption Court, chaired by Judge Vahe Dalmazyan, rejected the defense’s request to change the preventive measure against Tonoyan.
The ex-Minister of Defense is accused of abuses in the supply of ammunition. He has been in custody since September 2021. Also accused in this case are former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Artak Davtyan, former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Stepan Galstyan, ex-head of the Aviation Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Avetik Muradyan, Head of the Aviation Technical Equipment Service of the Aviation Directorate of the Ministry of Defense Artem Ambaryan, Chief Engineer of the Aviation Directorate Vladimir Babayan and participating in arms deals, businessman David Galstyan.
They are accused of involvement in the purchase of unusable aircraft missiles and the embezzlement of $4.6 million. They do not admit their guilt.
