On Wednesday, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) announced that 18 out of the 31 member countries of the alliance would reach the target of spending 2% of GDP on defence this year, Ednews reports citing La Tribune.
"This is another record figure", Jens Stoltenberg told reporters before a meeting of Nato defence ministers in Brussels. As a reminder, in 2014, only three countries had reached this 2% target.
"We are making real progress, the European allies are spending more", Jens insisted. However, he also stressed that "some of our allies still have a long way to go". "We agreed at the summit (in Vilnius, Lithuania) that all the allies should invest 2%, and that 2% was a minimum", he explained.
