Hungary has blocked the new, 13th package of EU sanctions, which could affect dozens of individuals and legal entities from Russia and other countries. Ednews reports citing the Financial Times.
According to it, Hungary was the only one at the meeting of EU ambassadors who opposed it. If this had not happened, a package of sanctions would have been approved, which was directed against almost 200 people and organizations from Russia, China and other countries, the article says.
However, this time the Budapest verdict was associated with measures directed not against Russia, but against China, FT notes, citing community officials. “[Representatives of] Hungary did not agree because of Chinese companies,” noted one of the officials. It is clarified that we are talking about three companies from China, as well as one from India.
A spokesman for the Hungarian ambassador did not respond to the FT's request for comment.
