The European Union has extended anti-Russian sanctions until February 24, 2025. The corresponding resolution of the EU Council was published in the Official Journal of the European Union. Ednews reports citing TASS.
“The restrictive measures in accordance with decision number 266 of 2022 should be extended for another 12 months, until February 24, 2025,” the statement said. It notes that we are talking about sanctions imposed in connection with the entry into Russia of the Donetsk and Lugansk people's republics, as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. “It is advisable to maintain all measures taken by the EU to date and take additional ones if necessary,” the message emphasizes.
In mid-January, the European Union began discussing the 13th package of sanctions against Russia. According to Bloomberg , the restrictions, which are planned to be adopted by February 24, were discussed on January 17 at a meeting of ambassadors of the community countries. They discussed the expansion of sanctions lists, additional trade restrictions, as well as measures to combat circumvention of restrictions. Subsequently, the EU representative confirmed that the EU intends to introduce new sanctions against Russia by the second anniversary of the start of the special military operation in Ukraine.
