Georgian opposition is holding a protest in front of the Georgian parliament building in Tbilisi demanding the withdrawal of the bill on foreign agents, Ednews informs via Mtavari Arkhi TV.
“We know that today the bill must be registered in the Bureau of Parliament. Therefore, people gathered to protest it, to express their position against the law... Our path is to Europe! By adopting this law, our European path will be blocked,” said a protester.
Patrol police teams have been mobilized on the territory of parliament and are not allowing even accredited journalists into the building.
The ruling Georgian Dream party recently reintroduced the bill on foreign agents, which caused mass unrest in March last year, to parliament. The bill entitled “On the Transparency of Foreign Influence,” uses the term “organization pursuing the interests of a foreign power instead of the term “agent of foreign influence", while the rest of the content of the bill remains the same.
