The Georgian parliament has elected the chairman of the Central Election Commission, the current head of the commission, Giorgi Kalandarishvili, Ednews informs referring to Georgian media.
His candidacy was supported by deputies from the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party and part of the opposition.
As many as 85 deputies voted for Kalandarishvili, 5 voted against. The term of office of the head of the Central Election Commission is five years.
A second vote was needed because Kalandarishvili on April 16 failed to receive the support of 90 deputies, which is necessary to be elected chairman of the Central Election Commission at the first stage. At the second stage, 76 votes are enough.
Parliament also approved the members of the commission.
