Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director William Burns and National Security Council Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk are set to travel to the Middle East, Barak Ravid, an Axios correspondent, reported on Tuesday, citing a US official and two sources with knowledge of the trips.
The purpose of their visit is to advocate for a hostage and ceasefire agreement in Gaza amid the new Israeli offensive near the al-Bureij refugee camp in the enclave and following US President Joe Biden's latest proposal for a deal between Israel and Hamas.
Burns is expected to arrive in Doha on Tuesday, while McGurk will be arriving in Cairo on Wednesday, Ravid added.
