The Russian Pacific Fleet announced on Thursday that its corvette Sovershennyy reached a meeting point with a detachment of Chinese Navy warships in the Korean Strait. The two countries will proceed to hold a joint maritime patrol.
Russia said the ships will conduct "joint anti-submarine and anti-aircraft defense operations, as well as search and rescue operations at sea," according to Ria Novosti. "The objectives of the joint patrols are to strengthen naval cooperation between Russia and China, maintain peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, monitor the marine area and protect the maritime economic activities of the Russian Federation and China," the Russian Pacific Fleet added.
