To date, a total of 743,345 square meters (74.3 hectares) of land in the liberated villages of Azerbaijan's Gazakh district has been successfully cleared of mines, the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) told.
In these areas, 1,076 pieces of mines and unexploded ordnance have been discovered and neutralized. This includes 933 anti-personnel mines, 95 anti-tank mines, and 48 pieces of unexploded military ordnance.
An agreement for the return of Gazakh's villages—Baghanis Ayrim, Ashaghi Askipara, Kheyrimli, and Gizilhajili—was reached during the April 19, 2024, border delimitation meeting between Azerbaijan and Armenia. These villages were officially placed under the control of the Azerbaijan State Border Service on May 24.
ANAMA is continuing mine clearance operations in these villages, prioritizing state directives. The operations employ manual mine detection methods, mechanical clearance machines, and mine detection dogs, as part of broader efforts to clear territories liberated from occupation.
