Germany’s Lufthansa Group has indicated its readiness to restore flight operations to Iran, according to reports from Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.
The reported development came during a meeting between Lufthansa Group executives and the chief executive of Imam Khomeini Airport City near Tehran, where discussions focused on the potential resumption of air services.
Lufthansa Group is among Europe’s largest aviation companies, operating several major carriers, including Lufthansa, Eurowings, ITA Airways, Austrian Airlines and Swiss International Air Lines.
The move comes as Iran continues efforts to normalize international air travel following the gradual reopening of its airspace. While eastern air routes were reopened to international flights in April, authorities only recently granted full 24-hour access to the country’s entire airspace, including western regions.
Air traffic has steadily increased since April 25, with flights resuming to multiple international destinations. Iranian authorities say eight airlines are currently operating services to 15 destinations across several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Oman, China and Russia.
If confirmed, Lufthansa’s return would mark a significant step in the recovery of Iran’s international aviation links and could strengthen air connectivity between Iran and Europe.
