No Phon Ly, the wife of the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, visited the Old City, which is a world cultural heritage site, on May 8.
“EDnews” reports that the guest’s visit to the Old City began with a visit to the Maiden Tower, a historical architectural monument.
It was reported that the Maiden Tower, founded in the 7th-6th centuries BC, was restored in the 12th century. The monument, which is 28 meters high and 16-16.5 meters in diameter, consists of a cylindrical main tower and a large supporting structure adjacent to it from the south.
The guest, who entered the Maiden Tower, was provided with detailed information about the internal structure of the monument, its function in the past, and archaeological finds.
During the tour, the Secretary General's wife was provided with detailed information about the "Icherisheher" State Historical and Architectural Reserve, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as the repair, improvement and restoration works carried out here. It was noted that rare historical architectural monuments from different centuries are preserved in the territory of Icherisheher.
The guest also got acquainted with the "Dastan" brand created at the Icherisheher Traditional Art Center. She was provided with detailed information about the projects implemented by this brand to protect and promote our national heritage, as well as the presented handicrafts and art samples.
During the tour, the guest was provided with information about the Underground Bath. It was noted that this historical and architectural monument, dating back to the early 17th century, is located in the southeastern part of Icherisheher. The bath, built of corner stones, reflects the city bath traditions of that period with its architectural style and unique features.
During the visit, the Secretary General's wife also got acquainted with the "Shirvanshahs Palace Complex", a masterpiece of medieval Eastern architecture and a historical and architectural monument of world importance. It was reported that the buildings of the historical monument, built at the beginning of the 15th century, are located on the highest point of one of the hills of the Old City. It is clearly visible from the Caspian Sea and the heights surrounding the city.
