A resolution was adopted in the European Parliament proposing to discuss the possibilities of Armenia's membership in the EU. In the draft resolution, the members of the European Parliament suggested considering the possibility of giving Armenia the status of a candidate for EU membership.
Do you think Armenia will join the European Union? If it becomes a member, could there be serious geopolitical changes in the South Caucasus region?
Umud Mirzayev, president of the International Eurasia Press Fund, made a broad statement to Ednews regarding the agenda. According to him, there is a large section within Armenia that is interested in the realization of the EU issue:
"After the collapse of the Soviet Union, countries became members of the European Partnership Program. Azerbaijan and Armenia were among those countries. Cooperation is more beneficial when it is two-sided. When any political goals are behind it, it brings with it certain problems. It seems to me that the possibility of Armenia becoming a member of the EU is realistic. In fact, Armenia's economic resources are entirely dependent on Russia. And, Russian military troops have been stationed inside Armenia. Russia is not at all interested in losing its positions in the Southern Caucasus. Although, this issue was not openly raised before, the issue of Armenia being an outpost and their formation as a state is Russia's idea. The map was drawn by Russia. To what extent will it be interested in losing what it created?"
U. Mirzayev believes that Russia is very angry about this issue. Incoming messages and statements testify to it:
"The matter has even reached the point where it is mentioned in the messages: Armenia will lose lands and be divided. In any case, the issue of Armenia's accession to the EU is not so easy and will happen soon. First of all, Armenia should regulate its relations with the surrounding states, and at the same time resolve its issues with Russia. I do not think that the EU should create an extra problem for itself. The issue of Türkiye has been discussed in the EU for many years. In other words, Türkiye benefits the EU in every way, what about Armenia. Armenia is in euphoria. Euphoria is sometimes associated with success. "Armenia is euphoric because of its failures."
