Russia's Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti on Thursday the freezing of Russian assets by Western countries and their subsequent use is "absolutely illegal."
“Although the blocked assets themselves are not being seized, Brussels' use of profits from their management is an illegal act,” the ministry said, adding that such an act should be condemned as "economic banditry" by the international community, Ednews reports.
The ministry's comments came as a response to the European Union's (EU) decision to transfer €1.5 billion from frozen Russian funds to Ukraine as military aid.
