A Kyrgyz TV channel congratulated ousted president of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev on his 70th anniversary sparking an outrage on social media, AkiPress reports.
The documentary shown on the NewTV on July 30 was dedicated to the birthday of the former President of Kyrgyzstan, who was ousted in 2010 revolution. The program tells about Bakiyev and his children, and his former classmates share their memories about him.
Bakiyev was born on 1 August 1949 and turns 70 this year. He was found guilty of power abuse and was sentenced to 24 years in prison in absentia. After 7 April 2010, he fled Kyrgyzstan to Belarus and now lives in Minsk. Younger son, Maksim Bakiyev, was sentenced to life in prison for corruption.
After the documentary sparked an outrage among the social media users, the National Security Committee said that the authors of the documentary and other online publications showing support to Bakiyev and his relatives do not fully realize the seriousness of their actions and consequences.
