During the First Karabakh War, Qubadli District lost 238 martyrs, with 190 people injured and disabled, and 78 reported missing. Due to the bravery shown in battles for the liberation of our lands, 10 individuals from Qubadli were awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan.
In the 2020 Patriotic War, nearly 300 volunteers from Qubadli participated. Of them, 11 were martyred, and over 40 returned as veterans. Notably, Vusal Yagubov from the village of Yusifbayli in Qubadli received the title of Hero of the Patriotic War at the young age of 19.
According to a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on July 31, 2023, October 25—the date of Qubadli’s liberation—is officially recognized as "Qubadli City Day."
Currently, extensive reconstruction and restoration work are underway in Qubadli. Located on the western edge of Eastern Zangezur, construction and development projects continue at a fast pace. Since its liberation, President Ilham Aliyev has made multiple visits to Qubadli, participating in the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremonies for various infrastructure projects.
On October 25, 2021, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited Qubadli to meet with the community and participate in the foundation-laying ceremony for strategic roads, power substations, and new military complexes for the State Border Service. In October 2022, the President and First Lady reviewed Qubadli City’s master plan and laid the foundations for the Victory and Occupation Museum complexes, water reservoirs, and new power grids.
On May 4, 2023, President Aliyev laid the foundation for residential neighborhoods, administrative buildings, schools, and the reconstruction of the villages of Khinalig, Mahruzlu, and Zilanli. Under this initiative, hundreds of individual homes are planned for construction in these villages.
It should be noted that Qubadli District was occupied on August 31, 1993, following an extensive attack by Armenian forces. During the occupation, Qubadli city and 93 villages of the district fell under Armenian control, with more than 31,000 residents forced to flee their homes as internally displaced persons.
