Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman and director of the press department of the Russian MFA, was remembered for a very shameful statement the other day:
She announced that Russia has sent a diplomatic demarche to Azerbaijan regarding the statement regarding the elections in the "new regions" of Russia. We have expressed everything about this matter."
It seems that the statements of the Azerbaijani MFA about the illegitimacy of the elections held in the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia, touched Mrs. Zakharova.
"We proceed from the fact that Baku should approach the issue of territorial integrity of our country with the same respect as our partners in the issue of territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan," she added.
First of all, let's explain what demarche means. This diplomatic term, which is a French word, means an initiative, speech, action or action taken to obtain concessions from the other party.
It should be noted that Russia has the right to notify any state. The only thing is that when doing this, you need to come up with fundamental reasons, not with such ridiculous arguments.
The position of the Republic of Azerbaijan is fully justified and transparent.
"Azerbaijan and Ukraine recognize and support each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Based on this, Azerbaijan declares that any election on the territory of Ukraine can be legitimate if it is held in accordance with the Constitution and legislation of this state," the statement reads.
Mrs. Maria and the Kremlin should understand that a country that is itself a victim of occupation cannot accept anything like this. The desire to intervene in Azerbaijan could have been demonstrated in a more fundamental way.
This is just a clear example of the downfall of "paper-reading robots" - Russian diplomats. Unfortunately, the diplomats, who were the saviors of the country in Russia's most difficult situation, have now become mere announcers to demonstrate the Kremlin's position.
In an interview with Ednews about the issue, former ASDP chairman and political scientist Zaradusht Alizadeh emphasized that he said this just to dictate Russia's political interests:
"Russia wants to dictate to all the surrounding countries and their political course as an absolute judge. Of course, this is not possible. Undoubtedly, there are countries that are afraid of Russia and are directly dependent on it. However, Azerbaijan is not such a state. Azerbaijan is financially independent, has a strong army and is able to serve its interests by implementing an independent policy. Therefore, Russia has no right to tell us what to do or what not to do. It is the duty of people like Maria to express Russia's position. The task of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of our country is to ignore such baseless ideas."
Political scientist Ilgar Velizade stressed that this statement is completely baseless:
"We have always supported the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. This fact is not a secret for Russia. Therefore, we continued our traditional policy and reaffirmed it. It is interesting that even Russia's closest ally, Belarus, did not recognize these elections. The countries that recognize these elections are either so-called republics created by Russia, or North Korea and Nicaragua, which are always criticized by the countries of the world and are isolated from world politics. The only thing is that the countries that do not recognize these so-called republics did not just make a statement. We made this decision taking into account the current situation in our country and the establishment of relations with Ukraine on several political and economic platforms. Russia should understand that there is nothing unusual here."
