As we reported, the Hamas movement, which controls the Gaza Strip, organized a large-scale attack against Israel in recent days. After that, the Israeli army started a military operation called "Iron Swords".
Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir declared a state of emergency throughout the country.
But who are these members of Hamas?
Hamas is a so-called Islamist organization that was founded in Egypt in the late 1920s.
Hamas stands for Islamic Resistance Movement and means "zeal" in Arabic.
The group politically controls the Gaza Strip, where more than two million people live.
Hamas has been in power in the Gaza Strip since 2007, following a brief war against Fatah forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
Hamas, like most Palestinian factions and political parties, claims that Israel is the occupying power. Members of the group consider Israel an illegitimate state, saying they are trying to liberate the Palestinian territories.
Hamas has claimed responsibility for many attacks against Israel for years and is therefore recognized as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and Israel.
Who supports the organization?
Hamas is part of a regional alliance that also includes Lebanon's Hezbollah group, which opposes Iran, Syria and US policies in the Middle East and Israel.
Hamas, the second largest armed group in the region, and Islamic Jihad often align against Israel and are the most important members of the joint operations room in Gaza, which coordinates military activities among the various armed groups.
It should be noted that the images of Hamas showing special cruelty to the civilian population during the conflict were spread on social networks. Currently, 560 people have died and about 2,900 people have been seriously injured as a result of rocket attacks.
