After a decade of tapering down its military presence in the region, USA is back with a huge display of force. In the past few days two fighter squadrons have flown in. They follow the deployment of two aircraft-carrier strike groups, multiple air-defence systems and much aid to Israel. More units have been told to prepare to deploy.
America’s goal is to deter attacks on American interests, on Israel and to a degree on its Arab allies.
But what if deterrence fails? Could USA be dragged back into another Middle East war?
Political expert, founder and general director of the Azerbaijan-US Economic and Educational Council, representative of IEPF in the US Peter Tase shared his thoughts and analysis with Ednews.
"In the United States, University Students walk out of the classroom to participate in Anti-Israel Protests. On Wednesday October 25th, 2023, the U.S. House of Representatives elected Republican Mike Johnson, a conservative with a limited leadership experience, as speaker, ending a turbulent three weeks that left the planless chamber unable to carry out any of its basic duties. The 220 to 209 party-line vote elevated Johnson to the powerful role that has been vacant since Kevin McCarthy was ousted on October 3 by a small group of his fellow Republicans.
The United States Society, especially young students, are barricaded against the state of Israel and its military offensive campaign against the Gaza strip".
The expert stated that, The US plans to increase its military presence in the Middle East region again by 2024 amid the ongoing fighting:
" Under the instructions of President Biden on recent escalations and provocations led by Iran and its proxy forces across the Middle East Region, the Pentagon has directed a series of additional steps to further strengthen the Department of Defense posture in the region. According to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin: “These steps will bolster regional deterrence efforts, increase force protection for U.S. forces in the region, and assist in the defense of Israel.
”Austin also said that he redirected the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Strike Group to join the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group, which is currently stationed in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. He said this move with “further increase our force posture and strengthen our capabilities and ability to respond to a range of contingences.”
In the State of Israel, as Dr. Daniel Pipes, a Middle East Distinguished Scholar has written: “All reports concur that a massive intelligence failure occurred.”
The U. S. Deterrence, and U. S. Navy Strike, Aircraft Carrier Groups, in the Eastern Mediterranean lack a significant degree of intelligence assessments from the ground in order to make accurate decisions and force projections in the Middle East. Iran has several proxy actors in the region and US Intelligence Community has a very little presence in the ground. The current armed conflict between Israel and Hamas has placed Washington in a very unfavorable situation and United States Forces must further engage with affected parties and other Arab nations especially Jordan and state of Qatar, to avoid a further loss of innocent lives from both sides".
But could the USA be dragged back into another Middle East War?
"It is evident that Washington has taken inaccurate military intelligence estimates during its last weeks before pulling out of Afghanistan in June – July 2021. Washington is a national elections mode and the Biden - Harris Administration is reluctant to send US Troops in the Middle East to assist either side". - as the expert said in the conclusion.
