Israel's ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan (pictured) said on Friday that the only way to reach peace in Gaza is by eliminating the Hamasmilitant group.
Speaking before the UN Security Council, Erdan claimed that "the true path to ensure peace is only through supporting Israel's mission, absolutely not to call for a ceasefire." He added that calling for a ceasefire "will only extend the war and the suffering of" both Israeli and Palestinian people.
Additionally, Erdan accused Hamas of breaking a week-long ceasefire by launching rockets and by not respecting the terms of the hostage release agreement. He concluded by saying that he hopes "that we will see Hamas defeated soon so that both Israelis and Gazans can leave freely, free of violence and free of fear."
