Yemeni rebels claimed responsibility for the attack, which caused "no injuries or damage", according to the US Middle East Command, Ednews reports referring to LeMonde.
The US military's Middle East Command (Centcom) said earlier that an anti-ship missile had been fired from Houthi-controlled areas towards the Red Sea at 23:30 Sanaa time (20:30 GMT) on Tuesday. "The missile was shot down by the USS Gravely (DDG 107). No injuries or damage were reported," he added.
The Houthis, who control large swathes of Yemeni territory, have carried out more than 35 attacks against ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since 19 November, according to the Pentagon, disrupting maritime traffic in this area that is essential for world trade. These insurgents close to Iran say they want to prevent ships linked to Israel from sailing off the coast of Yemen, "in solidarity" with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who have been caught up in the war between Israel and Hamas since 7 October.
