More than 814,000 people aged 15 and above in Azerbaijan were living with obesity in 2025, according to data released by the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan. EDnews report.
The report indicates that obesity, defined as a body mass index (BMI) above 30, affected 9.3% of men and 10.6% of women nationwide.
Obesity rates varied significantly across age groups. Among the 15–19 age group, the prevalence stood at 0.7%. The rate increased to 4.3% among people aged 20–44, rose sharply to 16.4% among those aged 45–64, and reached 19.3% among individuals aged 65 and older.
Gender-based differences were also recorded. In the 15–19 age group, obesity affected 0.5% of boys and 0.8% of girls. Among people aged 20–44, the rate was 5.5% for men and 3.1% for women. In the 45–64 category, obesity was reported in 15.2% of men and 17.6% of women, while among those aged 65 and above, the figures stood at 15.3% and 22.6%, respectively.
The findings show that obesity becomes more prevalent with age, with the highest rate recorded among women aged over 65.
