Baku to host Tango Festival with participation of prominent dancers and musicians

A press conference on the International Baku Tango Festival organized by the Argentine Embassy in Azerbaijan, United Cultures and the Ministry of Culture was held at Landmark on November 21.

Eurasia Diary reports that the festival will start on 28 November and last 1 December.

The conference was opened by a representative of Argentine embassy Eduardo Cavallero. He also mentions that many schools have been involved in this festival and included touristic opportunities.

It was noted that during this festival special guests Agustina Piaggio & Maksim Gerasimov (Argentina/Russia), Dance Winners of the 2019 World and Europe Championships on Argentine, Julio Saavedra & Tekla Gogrichiani (Argentina/Georgia), Iakof Shonsky & Mariam Rossa  (Georgia) and Cecilia Acosta & Levan Gomelauri  (Argentina/Georgia) will participate.

The musicians Victor Hugo Villena and Lautaro Tissera will be performing in the event. Victor Hugo Villena, bandoneon virtuoso trained in Argentina, is considered one of the best players of his generation and Lautaro Tissera is one of the most prominent virtuoso guitarists in the contemporary Argentinian Tango.

Corina Lehmann, head of the Department of Commerce and Culture at the Argentine Embassy, said that Tango is one of the most important elements in the culture of the country. This art originated from the synthesis of the cultures of the peoples who came to Argentina in the 19th century. C. Lehmann noted that tango is not just passionate dance and melancholic music, it is also the joy of different people around a specific subject.

The consultor of Ministry of Culture, Elnara Guliyeva stated the importance of the festival. She mentioned high-level relations between Azerbaijan and Argentine, especially in the cultural sector.

"Argentina is a country ready to cooperate and actively participates in all projects. We support the festival that brings our peoples closer together and we wish such projects to be sustainable,” she said.

The head of Department at "Baku Metro" Lala Babayeva noted the support of Baku metro on such projects. She mentioned previous open-air tango dance near the metro where ordinary people made joy and amazed from the dance.

Sanan Huseynli, head of the department at Baku Choreography Academy, said that the Tango classes will be given at the academy. He said that the festival will give a powerful impetus to the professional development of local dancers. He noted that the Academy will also host masterclasses on tango.

Noting that, the festival is organized by “The Landmark”, “Baku Metro”, Nizami Cinema Center", “Nizami Restaurant & Lounge”, ADA University, Baku Choreography Academy, Azerbaijan State Culture and Art University, “NESS Company”, “IN Tango Baku”, “Tango On”, “EI Club de Tango”, “Badu Kuba”, “R&N-project Dance School in Baku” və “Macrobiosis Tango School”.
