Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant accused Iran of arming civilian merchant ships with unmanned aerial vehicles and missile systems.
According to EDnews, the minister made a corresponding statement at a security conference in Herzliya near Tel Aviv.
"Galant detailed Iran's strategy to turn merchant ships into warships equipped with offensive weapons such as UAVs and missile systems, as well as advanced intelligence-gathering capabilities," the ministry's press service quoted the defense minister as saying.
Strengthen international cooperation to fight Iran
This was stated in an interview with Ednews by the editor of the Israeli Center for Economic Peace, political analyst Rachel Avraham.
According to her, measures must be taken to prevent the threat from Iran.
“It is necessary to strengthen international cooperation to fight Iran by turning merchant ships into floating bases. This will increase the chances of better intelligence to stop this threat. And on top of that, the international community should increase the sanctions against Iran, and they should have a real military threat against Iran. They should also arm separatist groups in Iran in the hope of overthrowing that regime in the long run."
She also shared her thoughts on negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran and called the military option to solve this problem reliable.
“There is every possibility in the future to negotiate a nuclear deal with Iran and enforce them. This is a country that goes on chanting death to Israel, death to America. They attacked the Azerbaijani embassy. In addition to attacking the Azerbaijani embassy, they also tried to kill an Azerbaijani MP. They recently attacked Mr. Ahmed Abali, an Iranian dissident in the United States. The terrorist attack took place in the United States. How can people even think about making a nuclear deal with Iran at this moment? And now, with the terrorist floating bases on top, as announced yesterday at the IDC conference in Herzliya, what to negotiate? There remains only a reliable military option.”
A. Abraham says that Iran is preparing for war primarily against its own people, and this threat can be eliminated with the help of the United States.
“There is a very big risk that merchants traveling in the Persian Gulf could be attacked by missiles or other forms of terrorist attacks. And I think the Iranians are preparing for war primarily against their own people. And then they want to strengthen their terrorist bases in Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen. And then they want to use it as a launch pad, maybe to persecute Israel, maybe the US, maybe Azerbaijan. These are their traditional enemies. They have global extensions. They want to take over the whole world.
Ideally, the US should rally and threaten to attack Iran. Iran only abandoned its nuclear program at some point in its history when George W. Bush invaded Iraq and there was a real military threat that Iran would be next. In any case, Iran will not give up nuclear weapons.”
