As we reported, by the decision of the Iranian government, additional military forces are being sent to the country's border with Iraq. According to reports, Iran wants to conduct military operations against both the Taliban and Iraq.
Is Iran really thinking of escalating the situation with Iraq again and what is the reason for this? If this war happens, how will it affect the countries of the region?
Taking into account the relevance of the issue, we discussed the topic with Professor Mervat Zakaria, a specialist in Iranian issues at Cairo University. In his statement to Ednews, he said that this is just being carried out in order to strengthen the security control in Iran.
"These steps will not affect Iran's relations with Iraq or regional countries. Because Tehran has good economic relations with Iraq. Even when there were economic sanctions on Tehran, it used Iraq a lot for dollar smuggling. Iran also has good political relations with some Iraqi political groups. For example, Tehran uses the "Shiite Coordination Forces" specifically to put pressure on other countries.
The political analyst also noted that there are many armed groups in Iraq, such as Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran. According to him, Tehran is using them to influence the events not only in Iraq, but also in all Arab countries.
During the conversation, Mervat Zakaria also emphasized that Iran uses Iraq to normalize its relations with the countries of the region.
"This was manifested in the mediation role played in the restoration of relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Iran on March 10."
The professor believes that based on the above mentioned, this step will not cause any war or conflict in the region.
"Iran just took this step to disarm the Kurdish opposition groups. The Iraq-Iran war is not expected to happen again. This is because Iran is the last country that can go to war.
Iran does not want war, given the high costs and heavy losses it incurred during the previous Iran-Iraq war. That is why he is waging war in other countries through some armed groups."
