Matthew Bryza, an international expert and member of the board of the Jamestown Foundation, who previously served as the US ambassador to Azerbaijan, noted that the US has the most powerful army in history and is ready to fight two or two and a half wars at any time, and it can provide military assistance as needed to both Israel and to Ukraine.
Speaking to Ednews, the former ambassador, while commenting on the news of the planned shipment of artillery shells to Israel, said that the number of missiles to be sent depends on whether it goes on a ground operation or not.
"That is not quite correct. President Biden yesterday was talking about sending 122mm artillery tank shells to Israel. However, eventually Israel will request 155mm artillery shells as well. There need to be more of those produced. Nevertheless, it’s unclear how many 155mm shells would go to Israel. That depends very much on what happens in terms of Israel’s military operations and whether Israel decides to launch the ground offensive into Gaza, that’s long been talked about".
Bryza points out that as difficult as it is to support the two sides, the US is fully capable of doing so:
"The production of those artillery shells is increasing. Much more significant in the short run in terms of US assistance to either Israel or Ukraine is the fact that the US House of Representatives doesn't have a leader or a speaker. And therefore can't approve any legislation and therefore that includes new money to produce artillery shells and all sorts of other weaponry that are needed in both Ukraine and in Israel. But the United States is by far the most powerful military in history and the United States prepares itself to fight over two or two and a half wars at any given time and so the United States says of course it can provide military assistance as needed to both Israel and to Ukraine. And President Biden even said in his speech, the United States will provide both whatever it takes for them to prevail, but it could be challenging".
According to him, the US does not plan to cut any aid that would weaken Ukraine:
The Pentagon is not planning to send any artillery shells that had been destined for Ukraine to Israel in a way that would undercut the US's ability to supply Ukraine. But it's always possible that situation could change, depending upon how the situation evolves on the ground in Israel, Gaza.
It should be noted that according to the news published in the US press, the Pentagon plans to send thousands of 155 mm artillery shells to Israel, which were intended to be sent to Ukraine from the US emergency storage a few months ago.
