During a recent episode of Ednews TV, Member of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan Tural Ganjaliyev shared insights on global security challenges and Azerbaijan’s role in emerging peace initiatives following the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Ganjaliyev commented on the newly proposed Peace Council, an international initiative announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. He emphasized that the creation of such an organization reflects growing dissatisfaction with existing international institutions, particularly their inability to effectively resolve modern conflicts.
Ganjaliyev cited the Armenia–Azerbaijan conflict as a clear example of institutional failure, noting that international organizations were unable to deliver results for decades. He stressed that Azerbaijan’s actions in 2020 were conducted in line with international law and the UN Charter, ultimately leading to a successful resolution of the conflict.
According to Ganjaliyev, Azerbaijan’s post-conflict peace efforts—including lifting restrictions, facilitating humanitarian cargo, and supporting regional cooperation—now serve as a valuable model for the international community. He underlined that this experience is one of the reasons Azerbaijan was invited to take part in the new Peace Council initiative, alongside Armenia.
The discussion also touched on skepticism from major global powers and the European Union, as well as the notable absence of African countries from the initiative. Ganjaliyev argued that without Africa’s involvement, no global peace organization can truly succeed, expressing hope that African nations will soon be actively included.
The interview concluded with optimism that Azerbaijan’s peace-building experience could contribute meaningfully to new global approaches to conflict resolution.
