Nasim Malik is the president of the International Wing of Social Democratic Party. He lives currently in Sweden. He is also a member of the Kalmar city council since 1990. Malik is also human rights activist and one of the motivational and influential speakers about the human rights issues in the world.
Nasim Malik talks with the Eurasia Diary in an exclusive interview from Sweden.
Eurasia Diary: Please, let me know about your brief introduction. How do you reach from Pakistan to Sweden and how are you working on human rights situations over the world?
Nasim Malik: Thank you for giving me this opportunity to discuss some of the points which are very much needed now as we see in the world politics. I left Pakistan in 1980th and it was not possible for me to live and I migrated to Sweden. In Sweden I joined Social Democrat Party and they elected me and I was nominated on different posts as well.
Eurasia Diary: How do you see the differences between European and Asian countries? What is the main difference you feel there?
Nasim Malik: The main difference I felt here when I joined Social Democrat Party and the motto just was “We should work on the basis of human rights” and that is democracy. Social Democrat Party in Sweden they are not only talking about democracy they are working on it and a person like me I was elected to the highest post here in my party. I was nominated for the different posts as well, for example, I was also nominated for the Swedish parliament and also the European Parliament. I was not elected but nominated that was really great success for me. In Pakistan a usual person like me they don’t have that opportunity to be to set on the local council. Only rich people and people who come from big family backgrounds they are nominated but here a migrated person was elected and I think this is the democracy.
Eurasia Diary: Which kind of challenges do you think Europe is facing right now as the migrant’s crisis is one of the leading?
Nasim Malik: One thing I want to clear that Sweden welcomed the migrants more that other countries. People of all nationalities starting from Palestinian, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Bosnia and Herzegovina come to the Sweden and Germany as well. They welcomed them from the beginning. Last year millions of people migrated to European countries. Mostly Germany and Sweden got the largest number of migrants for example Sweden hosted 180000 migrants from other countries. But then it is not able to accommodate all of them and it was impossible to cope with that and so we ask EU- all the 47 members and ask for help especially for Syrians only Germany and Sweden are on the front line.
Eurasia Diary: Largest number of the migrants in the world is in Turkey and then in Pakistan, two countries. When it comes to the countries like Turkey and Pakistan, Europe and United States stressed that this is the human right and you have to follow the UN and UNHCR rules and regulations and but when it comes to the their own they say we should do migrants out of the Europe. Is this not double standard of Europe and America?
Nasim Malik: My country and Germany we all are still fighting in the European Parliament for this and all the nations should come forward and follow the rules of UN and UNHCR. Any other Muslim country can help these migrant crises like Turkey and Pakistan .Now many Syrians are living in Turkey. Why not Syrians are accepted by Saudi Arabia, Dubai or Abu Dhabi and all the big oil nations.
Eurasia Diary: How do you think what is happening after Brexit in UK? New Prime Minister Theresa May how she will tackle these challenges, she will do U-turn from decision or not?
Nasim Malik: When we talk about democracy again I can say people went to voting and people in UK chose this and left.
Eurasia Diary: How it will affect overall European Union especially for the Sweden?
Nasim Malik Our government, we are thinking and planning for the future and my personal view is that what the decision they had made I just respect that but I do not think EU can be together if UK exit.
Eurasia Diary: How do you see this US election? Do you have some sort of the comments about this?
Nasim Malik: My only comment is we should note the world that has been world crises. When I listen what, the candidates are saying and talking about foreign policy I am afraid that we are not moving toward peace, we are moving toward disaster and we can face many problems like immigrant’s crises as well.
Eurasia Diary: According to your political awareness what can you say who will win?
Nasim Malik: I hope American people will elect the president who will have love between societies not hatred between societies. They will elect people who will bring peace for the world.
Eurasia Diary: What is your message to Islamic world?
Nasim Malik: My message as Swedish Muslim is we should come forward teaching of Islam, Love for all, hate for none. We should follow peaceful working in society. As Muslim I believe in Holy Jihad and what Holy Jihad is? That is with the pen not with the bombs. What we should do, we should create and we should help the communities with the pen, give them education, not the bombings.
