Toivo Klaar, the special representative of the European Union for the crisis in South Caucasus and Georgia, wrote on his social network account that there is a "threat" against Armenia in the Azerbaijani media. He claimed that threats against Armenia in the Azerbaijani media are unacceptable:
"Genuine negotiations on border delimitation are needed and all territorial disputes must be resolved peacefully and through a negotiated process."
In his statement to Ednews, political scientist Alimusa Ibrahimov stated that Toivo Klaar, the special representative of the European Union on the South Caucasus and Georgia crisis, said that there is a "threat" against Armenia in the Azerbaijani media, and it can be considered as the European politician's appeal to double standards:
"Because the presence of a threat in the press should not mean that the state threatens, and the Armenian press is full of threats against Azerbaijan. If Klaar was really a sincere mediator between Armenia and Azerbaijan, he should have talked about the elimination of threats to each other in the media of Azerbaijan and Armenia. Or at least he should have pointed to the Armenian press. For more than 30 years, European politicians did not call Armenia an occupying state under the guise of maintaining the "balance". Klaar seems to have forgotten that balance now. Or this balance does not come to mind in relation to Azerbaijan. A few months ago, Klaar-type politicians from Europe kept shouting that Armenia is in danger and that Azerbaijan is preparing an attack against it. Armenian bigots, who saw that their predictions did not come true, are now talking about the threats in the press. Their main goal is to focus on the poor face of the suffering Armenian people. On the other hand, Klaar did not know that the press is independent in Azerbaijan, like everywhere else, and writes analyzes according to its wishes.
The political scientist noted that I have difficulty defining what he means by "real negotiations":
"So the negotiations would be "unreal". With this, Toivo Klaar calls into question the painstaking negotiations. Maybe the negotiations he is the mediator of are unreal and insincere. In any case, it would be interesting to ask Klaar about this."
The political scientist concluded by highlighting the autonomy of the Azerbaijani press and criticized Klaar for overlooking the freedom of the press in Azerbaijan. Ibrahimov's remarks underscored a broader skepticism regarding Klaar's approach to mediation and called for further scrutiny of his stance on negotiations in the South Caucasus region.
