US President Donald Trump said Iran had allowed oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, describing the move as a “sign of respect.”
Speaking about the Strait of Hormuz, Trump said Iran had let “20 boats of oil” pass through the strategic waterway.
“They gave us, I think out of a sign of respect, 20 boats of oil, big boats of oil going through the Strait of Hormuz,” he said.
Trump did not provide further details about the vessels, their destination or any agreement related to their passage.
His remarks came as shipping through the strait remains severely disrupted amid the ongoing regional conflict. Reporting from the Associated Press and other outlets notes Trump has made similar public claims about Iran allowing 20 tankers through, but no detailed public verification of the cargoes or destinations was included in those reports.
