US President Donald Trump has formally informed Congress that American forces have resumed military strikes against Iran, according to multiple media reports.
In a letter dated July 10, Trump said the renewed operation began on July 7 and described it as military action undertaken to protect US citizens and national interests at home and abroad.
The letter characterized the strikes as "limited, measured, and carefully planned," adding that the operation was conducted with the aim of minimizing civilian casualties.
The notification comes under the 1973 War Powers Resolution, which requires the US president to notify Congress within 48 hours of initiating military action. The law also stipulates that military operations launched without congressional authorization must generally end within 60 days unless lawmakers approve their continuation.
The latest notification follows renewed hostilities between the United States and Iran after an earlier ceasefire, with tensions continuing to escalate despite previous efforts to halt the fighting.
