Hosting the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Azerbaijan in 2027 is a great responsibility for the country, President Ilham Aliyev said at the opening of the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum.
According to the president, Azerbaijan has always consistently advocated for strengthening solidarity among Muslim countries.
"Numerous events held in Azerbaijan, as well as the initiatives we put forward, were aimed precisely at strengthening solidarity, mutual understanding, and unity (within the organization - ed.)," the president said.
Ilham Aliyev also expressed regret that there is currently a lack of unity among Muslim countries. Instead, tensions are rising, mutual accusations are being made, and wars are raging in various parts of the world, not just in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region.
"This is deeply disappointing, as solidarity within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, in my view, is one of the key factors in ensuring security and stability. The greater the solidarity and mutual understanding, the fewer difficulties there will be," Ilham Aliyev said.
He also noted that Azerbaijan's role has always been highly valued. He added that, at various times and in interactions with various parties, Azerbaijan has played an important, constructive role, focused on achieving concrete results and reducing tensions.
