Today, the people of Azerbaijan celebrate National Flag Day.
Eurasia Diary reports that the tricolor flag of Azerbaijan was adopted as a state symbol at a meeting of the Government of the Azerbaijan People's Republic (APR) on November 9, 1918.
After the Bolshevik occupation on April 27, 1920, the flag of Azerbaijan was replaced by the red sickle-hammer flag of the Azerbaijan SSR.
However, after the restoration of the independence of Azerbaijan on 18 October 1991, the tricolor flag of Azerbaijan has been again restored.
By the decree signed by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on November 18, 2009, November 9 is marked as the National Flag Day.
