35 years pass since the events of Sumgayit. On the night of February 27-28, 1988, 32 people died as a result of riots in the city of Sumgait. 26 of them were Armenians, 6 were Azerbaijanis. These events were part of the scenario implemented by the State Security Committee of the USSR together with the Armenians. Subversive groups of Armenians stationed in Sumgait and fluent in the Azerbaijani language played a special role in the occurrence of that event.
Also, the political maneuver played in these events was used as a pretext to start the deportation of Armenians from Azerbaijan and Azerbaijanis from Armenia. Till now, Armenians show Azerbaijanis as the perpetrators of the ethnic conflict, and the Sumgayit events as the reason.
Umud Mirzayev, President of the International Eurasia Press Fund, spoke to Ednews about the Sumgait events. He noted that the events happened in front of his eyes. These events were a logical continuation of the events that happened before it.
"The beginning of the great exodus from Armenia, the deportation of Azerbaijanis, the deportations in Karabakh, the rallies in Khankendi, the killing of Ali and Bakhtiyar there, these were all issues that caused great violence one after the other. On the other hand, the special service bodies that organized these events for that period were very active. Support was given to certain ethnic groups to incite enmity between different people. Representatives of the Armenian special services, Dashnaksutyu's hands reached out to all regions of Azerbaijan."
During the conversation, U. Mirzayev remind the great research article of late Academician Ziya Bunyadov on "Sumgait events".
"Ziya Bunyadov wrote a great research after the events of Sumgait. It was published in "Elm" newspaper, which gained prestige at that time. This investigation of the newspaper wa going hand in hand among the people. The events of Sumgait took place due to the activity of criminals of Armenian origin organized by the special services. Eduard Grigoryan, who was at the head of that crime, was arrested and taken to Russia together with the convicted Azerbaijanis. But they released him directly from the court. Such activities supported the events that took place in Sumgait."
The head of the Fund added that Armenians like to shout "Sumgait, Sumgait" and make noise. However, they cannot say who caused the events in Sumgait. They don't want to touch the issue and open it up. In fact, this is one of the events that revealed the inside of the separatist forces. Of course, we condemn the Sumgait events. The death of innocent people who are targeted by criminals is deeply regrettable. All those killed were members of families who did not help the separatist forces. At that time, those people did not transfer money to Dashnaksutyu's cash registers and accounts."
In the end, U.Mirzayev emphasized that the forces organizing the Sumgait events had made preparations in advance.
"The fact that the incident was immediately disseminated, printed, and shown on international information networks indicated that it was a prepared incident. I believe that the events happening in Karabakh today, the 44-day war should be a great lesson for the separatist forces. The blackmails, lies, and slanders voiced today regarding the peaceful actions on the Lachin road are the slanders of the criminals who committed Sumgayit."
It should be noted that the investigative group that investigated the causes of the events and consisted of representatives of the former USSR prosecutor's office and the State Security Service hid the real truth, laying everything that happened on the Azerbaijanis. Unfortunately, the representatives of the law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan, who were part of that investigation team, participated in the trial of innocent people instead of opposing the injustice. Elchin Gulaliyev, who was forcibly declared a defendant during the investigation, a second-group disabled person, living with an insulin, was mysteriously killed in Bayil prison. His innocence was revealed during the court review of his case.
