Ednews informs that on April 4 International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action Day, one of the world's leading organizations, Roots of Peace, an official partner of the International Eurasia Press Fund, received a support letter from the San Francisco office of the European Union Delegation to the United States.
In the letter, it was noted that the work done by Heidi Kuhn, the founder and CEO of the organization, with the idea of "Mines to Vines" (Mines to Vines) in different countries of the world is highly appreciated and support will be provided in this activity.
“Dear Heidi,
As the world marks the United Nations’ International Day for Landmine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action on April 4, 2023, I would like to commend you for your leadership and achievements through Mines to Vines in raising awareness about landmines and undertaking tangible action in contaminated areas around the world by removing landmines and planting vineyards, and in so doing, bringing hope and progress to local communities.
The progress that you and the community have achieved over the years with the strong support of Napa Valley vintners is truly remarkable, but as you always point out yourself, there remains so much to do to rid countries of this scourge.
I look forward to continuing our discussions about how the European Union can provide further support to the continued success of your initiative.
Wishing you all the best in helping to make the world a better and a safer place. ," the letter said.
Heidi Kuhn shared this news with IEPF president Umud Mirzayev and noted that this letter is a great incentive for their future activities. She also stressed that she is looking forward to starting the implementation of the "Mines to Vines" idea in Azerbaijan as soon as possible. Umud Mirzayev congratulated the "Roots of Peace" organization on the occasion of its activity being estimated by the European Union and receiving a support letter from the organization, and expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported this humanitarian activity.
"Roots of Peace" NGO and the International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) have been successfully cooperating for a long time. On March 1-4, 2022, Mrs. Heidi Kuhn, the founder and head of the world-famous Roots of Peace,
a non-profit organization for Mine Action, visited Azerbaijan at the invitation of the International Euroasia Press Fund and with the support of ANAMA, took part in the neutralization of 8 anti-tank mines in Karabakh and gave the message that her next goal will be to free Karabakh from the scourge of mines. On April 1 last year, at the conference “Humanitarian Mine Action and Sustainable Development Goals” held jointly by the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, ANAMA and the UN Development Program (UNDP) in Baku, the two partner organizations made a proposal to recognize the global mine problem as the 18th SDGs for the first time. Also, an official letter was addressed to the UN Secretary General, Mr. Antonio Guterres, signed jointly by Heidi Kuhn and IEPF President Umud Mirzayev, on Azerbaijan's global mine problem and the initiative to adopt the 18th SDGs.
Heidi Kuhn has always been sensitive to Azerbaijan's landmine problem in her speeches, media resources and social media accounts and has always highlighted it.
Mrs. Kuhn, who is supported by important people such as presidents of the country, UN leaders, congressmen, and the Pope, mentions the name of Azerbaijan in almost all her meetings and tries to draw the attention of the international community to our country. Finally, during her meeting with Pope Francis, she shared with the public that she received approval to hold a joint event with IEPF in the Vatican on June 10 this year.
