As reported, a mine incident occurred in the area which has not been cleared of landmines in the direction of Azerbaijan's Sugovushan village of Tartar district. The driver of the International Eurasia Press Fund, Babashov Khazar Tariyel,1990, was injured as a result of the explosion of an anti-personnel mine.
Speaking to Ednews about the incident, Umud Mirzayev, the president of the International Eurasia Press Fund and the chairman of the Public Council under ANAMA, said that IEPF employee Babashov Khazar Tariyel was hit by a landmine as a result of careless driving in Sugovushan area around 08:30 in the morning. His right leg was amputated from the ankle. His condition is stable, no danger to life, but for all of us this event is a painful:
"We received the very sad and painful news today. A person loses a part of his healthy body. In any case, our employee was in danger. The operation was performed with the support and help of doctors. His life is not in danger, but his health has been lost. His family and loved ones will live with this pain throughout his life."
According to U.Mirzayev, the lands of Karabakh, which have been under occupation for 30 years, have been contaminated with mines.
"Most of the mines are made in Armenia and Russia. Although our lands have been liberated from occupation for 2 years. But none of us is immune from such tragedy and pain. IEPF has been operating in the Mine Action Program for the past 20 years. Our Community Mine Action team, Awareness teams operate in different regions. We have certain research groups that are working day and night to save the Karabakh region from a great disaster and a brutal enemy. I call on the world's most global demining organizations to jointly and promptly fight mines, which have been a terrible fear of the last centuries.
U. Mirzayev also stressed that serious work should be done to educate the population in the field of mine safety:
"We are often among the people living in those areas. We are doing awareness work. However, there is a need to carry out more educational activities among the population."
Noted that since the cessation of hostilities in accordance with the agreement of November 10, 2020, until today, as a result of the explosion of the mines buried by the Armenian armed forces, a total of 295 victims, including military personnel and civilians, 51 people were killed, and 244 people received various degrees of physical injuries.
