Phillip Tissue, the political adviser of the United States Embassy in Azerbaijan, held phone call with Umud Mirzayev, the president of the International Eurasia Press Fund.
According to the Ednews, Mr. Tissue expressed his regrets to U. Mirzayev that the driver of the IEPF Community Mine Action team, Babashov Khazar Tariyel,1990, was injured as a result of the explosion of an anti-personnel mine in the direction of Sugovushan village of Tartar region.
He expressed his concern about the incident:
"The US government is aware of the problems Azerbaijan is facing with landmines. We support Azerbaijan in this regard. After each mine incident, we provide information to the government. We emphasize the importance of the issue. We are sensitive to this issue. We wish the injured person a speedy recovery."
U. Mirzayev noted the mine and the problems it caused:
"Unfortunately, today Azerbaijan ranks first in the world in terms of the level of pollution with mines and explosives. At the moment, Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) is actively continuing the activities of the Anti-Mine Threat Program in the region. The mine problem is one of the most important issues that Azerbaijan needs to pay attention to."
