Visit of founder and CEO of the "Roots of Peace" international organization dedicated to the removal of landmines and the subsequent replanting and rebuilding of war-torn regions Heidi Kühn to Azerbaijan under the organization of Azerbaijani National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) and International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) started.
EDnews informs that the purpose of the visit is to bring to the attention of the world community the scale of the landmine problem in the liberated areas of Azerbaijan, the obstacles this problem creates to the Great Return and stability and lasting peace in the region, to support the transformation of mine-contaminated areas into agricultural land under the motto "Mines to Vines", as well as on the occasion of the International Mother's Day, make a global appeal to the women of the world about the landmine problem together with Azerbaijani mothers.
Also, one of the main purposes of the visit is to promote the new Sustainable Development Goal on global humanitarian demining, which will be discussed at the 2nd international humanitarian demining conference scheduled to be held at the end of May this year, and to support joint cooperation in this direction.
During the visit, ANAMA's Board Chairman Vugar Suleymanov, IEPF President Umud Mirzayev and officials of the special representation of the President of Azerbaijan in the liberated territories included in the Karabakh economic region (except Shusha region) accompany her.
At a meeting with mothers living in war-affected areas in the village of Ashaghı Abdurrahmanli of Fuzuli district, Mrs. Heidi Kuhn addressed to the women of the world and said that every year tens of thousands of people around the world suffer from the negative effects of mines and war, become victims of catastrophic explosions, and after each mine explosion, a family and a mother's life, happiness and hopes for the future were destroyed.
"Today, here,on this International Mother's Day, we unite with the mothers of Azerbaijan in the village of Ashaghi Abdurrahmanli in Karabakh's Fuzuli district, to reach out to all women across the globe. We feel obliged to bring to the attention of the global community that the issue of landmines isn't solely Azerbaijan's problem but is also a concern for other nations, and that keeping mum about this challenge would inflict further harm upon us. We want peace! We aspire for our children, sons, daughters, and future generations to live in good health! A life free of landmines and enduring peace for a healthy future! Our ultimate objective is peace. We anticipate that the women around the world who cherish peace will stand by us and a solidarity of the women, the final remaining landmine on Azerbaijan, as well as earth will be dismantled, and our planet will turn into a safe and peaceful place" Mrs. Heidi Kuhn emphasized in her address.
Heidi Thomas Kuhn got acquainted with the devastation caused by the enemy in the liberated areas of Fuzuli region, the large-scale humanitarian demining activities carried out in these areas, the reconstruction and infrastructure projects implemented for the return of former IDPs to their lands. She participated in the tree-planting campaign within the framework of the "Peace Planting" campaign in the area cleared of mines.
