The Office of the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan has sent appeals to the international community calling for the immediate release of Azerbaijani servicemen detained and illegally imprisoned in Armenia, Ednews reports that the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Ombudsman) Sabina Aliyeva told this.
"We are in regular contact with the Baku office of the International Committee of the Red Cross and demand that the rights of our servicemen who are illegally detained and subjected to torture in Armenia be ensured. Their inhuman treatment is contrary to international law."
According to Sabina Aliyeva, Azerbaijan is fulfilling all the international obligations it has assumed concerning the Armenians detained as they attempted to commit sabotage on the territory of the country.
"We regularly bring this issue to the attention of the leadership of the World Ombudsman Association and all regional and international organizations of which we are members. We demand that they express a strong protest in connection with the situation with the Azerbaijani military," Sabina Aliyeva added.
