Dr. Nidal Salim, Director and Founder of the Global Institute for Water Environment and Health, shared his insights during an interview with Ednews TV at the 3rd International Conference on Mine Action, themed “Mitigating Environmental Impact of Landmines: Resource Mobilization for Safe and Green Future.”
Reflecting on the progress in Azerbaijan following the conflict, Dr. Salim expressed a mixture of emotions. "It's a mixture of different visions and emotions because first we saw the area where it's developed after this war. It's a type of a nice feeling to have to see the new conference center, to see the mosque, to see the village, the eco-village. This is a nice thing," he remarked, noting the visible signs of recovery and development in the region.
Dr. Salim emphasized the significance of the conference's focus on the intersection of environment, landmines, water, and climate change. "This conference is a very interesting one because it's a mixture between environment, landmines, water, and climate change," he stated. He also highlighted Azerbaijan's upcoming role in hosting COP29 discussions at the end of the year, underlining the broad scope of issues being addressed.
